Problem with Insertion point when openjng Word

I have Word 2002 and Windows XP.
When I open Word the insertion point appears halfway down the page. I go to Page Setup and the top margin setting is shown as 0.5 inches, as expected. I can find no way of moving the insertion point up the page.
This has never happened before and Word has always worked well for me. How do I correct this?

Try creating a new normal.dot template as follows:

Before you start it would be helpful to display the file extensions - the .dot

Go to Control Panel - Folder Options - View tab and make sure 'Hide extensions for known file types' is not ticked. If it is then uncheck and click Apply/OK.

Then:

Close all programs.

Click Start, and then click Search.

Click All files and folders.

In the All or part of the file name box, type Normal.dot.

In the Look In box, click My Computer.

Click Search Now.

For each instance of Normal.dot, right-click the file, click Rename, and then type OldNormal.dot.

Close Search Results, and then start Word.
