Problem with Ghost 2003

Been using it for years and can't understand why it's let me down.
Two hard drive C and E. E is my backup using 2003 Ghost, both drives are NTFS. Clones my C to E this morning and when it finished, it warned me that I had an image file problem?
I took a look at my backup drive E and found it empty with a flag which said "Not formatted.Do you want to format it now?"
So now I'm formmating which will take quite a while.
Question - what do you think went wrong ?

I hasten to add that my C drive remains in tact but I feel very insecure !

Please help or should I approach Symantec which I've always had problems with or should I choose another cloning package.

Again please help.

Sounds as if your hard drive is on the way out.

All harddrive manufacturers have downloadable software to test their harddrives and indicate actual or potential problems.
Ghost is not without its problems and a lot of people on this site recomend Acronis.
I use xxclone which is free and works for me. It is available on click here
