I have just installed a old 80 gig hard drive as a back up. It was in another computer and was partition to make 2 drives. My problem is now when i go into computer management (USING XP) the drive is only found as a 30 gig. How can i get it to reconised the whole 80 gig again.

Right click on your "My Computer Icon" choose "Manage" then disk management. From there select the drive and format, it should now be recognised at it's full capacity. j.

Do you see two rectangles in disk management next to the new drive "Disk 1"?

Just to be sure, have you made sure your motherboard supports that size hard drive?

Try booting off recovery cd to see if you have any unallocated space (If you're having trouble using computer management)

The rectangles that powerless refers to are the long white windows that should stretch across the screen. [I think].

You should see your first drive listed in the left pane as drive C (0).

Then underneath that you should have another drive listed as D [Or whichever letter it's been given] both of these letters are in the left hand pane and have a long rectangular window to the right. Is this what you can see?

Has the drive has been jumpered to 32gb?
