Problem connecting new HP printer with USB cable

  Junior6692 14:15 08 Mar 07

I have just purchased an HP F380 All-In-One printer and a new USB cable. I have installed the printer software, and have connected the USB cable when prompted to do so during the installation process. The screen that prompts you to connect the USB has "next", "back" and "finish" greyed out, only the "help" button is available. Even after I've connected the USB cable these 3 buttons remain greyed out (ie you can't move on in the process without clicking a box which says "I will connect the USB later"). I even went back to the shop and got a replacement USB cable because I thought the first one was faulty, but the same thing is still happening. Any ideas?

Have you tried another USB socket on the computer?

If your machine has a lot of USB connectors, try on that is located in the block where most of the other connections are made (top, left with the rear of the machine facing you.)

Failing that, I would suspect the connection on the printer as being faulty.

If your OS is XP, are you trying to install the printer with just user privileges? If so you have to log in as Administrator to install devices.
