Problem connecting external hard drive

  harry1977 14:04 08 Mar 10

I've just bought a new desktop pc running Windows 7 (64-bit) and whenever I try to connect my LaCie mobile disk (external hard drive) it fails to install. It loads without any problem on a PC running Windows 7 (32-bit), so I'm assuming the conflict is with the 64-bit. I've contacted both the PC manufacturer and LaCie, but neither have been able to help (so far). Has anyone got any suggestions as I've tried everything the 2 manufacturers have suggested without any success.

Missing Driver ?

If this is just a bog standard USB2 connection then it should work, I'm as confused as you are.

Try another USB port

I presuming you are connecting direct not via a Hub which may well require a driver.
I have 2 external HDs on my system Win 7 64bit
I dates back to early XP rhe other used on my Vista Both were 32bit and both connect.via USB
The only thing I can suggest is
Plug this in and when it fails to unstall you should get the option to install as adminstrater
