Problem with Canoc Lide30 Scanner

Scanning a photo. 'Preview' works OK. 'Scan' starts to work and then at about 60% it stops and message says 'Unable to communicate with scanner - cable may be disconnected'. The only, temporary, solution I have found is to uninstall the scanner,disconnect it, restart computer, then re-connect the scanner. It will the be OK for a few times before the fault re-occurs. Have you experienced anything similar, or have any suggestions? Latest driver has been downloaded.
