Problem Backing up system to external HD

  The Pretender 10:34 02 Dec 05

My computer gives me the following message when trying to backup entire system. C:\failed to backup. error code. The process cannot access the file because another process has locked a portion of the file. 0x00517A04,Ox0051776D, 0x00515F74, 0x00A42048, 0x20005903.
What can I do to fix this. I am using an IOMEGA_HDD.

Any assistance will be appreciated.

What program are you using for the backup?

Unfamiliar with Iomega since I gave up using an Iomega Jaz drive, but I think you may be being too ambitious for the software.

Ghost and Acronis are capable of making image files of a whole drive (C:) while the system is running Windows, which is pretty miraculous!
Windows changes with every mouse click and unless certain files are locked while being copied and compressed.

Backup can mean so many things from copying a couple of files to somewhere else to a full scal "image" of an entire drive many Gb long and that is where you need to be very sure about your software and what it really can/cannot do.
