Problem with Acer Aspire 5735Z memory upgrade/increase

Hello, I bought 2 x HYNIX 2GB 800MHz PC2-6400 DDR2 CL5 SODIMM modules as an upgrade for an Acer Aspire 5735Z which came with 1 x Nanya 2GB PC2-5300 DDR2-667MHz CL5 SoDimm and 1 x Elpida 1GB PC2-5300 DDR2-667MHz CL5 SoDimm installed at purchase.

I used the Crucial website's scan facility and it stated that 2 x 2GB DDR2 PC2-6400 memory modules would be a suitable upgrade. They recommend their CT898797 kit (click here of course but I thought I'd try a different (cheaper) brand of RAM with the same spec.

However with the HYNIX modules installed the laptop fails to boot. I also tried installing all possible combinations of the old and new RAM, but any instance of the HYNIX RAM being installed results in boot failure.

Is there a fundamental difference between these Hynix & the Crucial modules that I'm overlooking? Any advice anyone can give would be much appreciated.

ps - I contacted the seller and he insists that the RAM was tested prior to dispatch.

Where did you buy it and is it returnable?
If so I would contact the seller and tell him that it won't work in your PC. Tested prior to dispatch or not you could return under the Distance Selling Regulations.
