Probe on Port 17300 - Kuang2 The Virus

  VoG™ 22:05 07 May 03

Looking at my firewall (McAfee) log I've noticed a dramatic increase in the number of attempted probes of this port which is commonly associated with the above trojan.

I'm not worried about this because all my ports are protected and stealthed.

A quick Google reveals other reports of this increased activity but no explanation. Any ideas?

Call yourselves a Helproom? Honestly!

I'll tick this as resolved and dedicate myself to becoming a world expert on this trojan.

I’ve come across a bit of information on this VoG™.

Apparently the virus is of 1999 vintage and the consensus seems to be that recent activity is due to someone (?) checking if there remains any hosts around that are still infected.

Probably not much use to you but may help to pad out your verbiage when you are ready to issue your White Paper on the subject.

Thanks. I'm just off to register to do a PhD on Kuang2.
