When I power on my laptop, the printer starts printing garbage. I delete the spool file, and after about 2 minutes it starts printing again.
Deleted the printer and re-added, but problem still persists. I am running windows XP.

How about having the printer switched off until you need it? Sorry it is not more helpful, but have you tried that?

Was there not a virus recently that one of the side effects of was your printer taking on a life of its own?
I can't remember for the life of me what it was called, but if you have upto date virus protection and have scanned recently you can discount this. Just a thought.
