Printing Digital Photos.

I've noticed that ever since I've starting printing Digital pictures on my PC that they always seem to print out darker than they appear on the PC. I've had two different Cameras (Kodak DC280 and now a Fuji Finepix S302). It seems the same whichever printer or paper I use. I could always alter the brightness and contrast using the software but I wondered whether there was a more basic cause to this?
Many Thanks.
Steve Glover.

Try these tests to check if you monitor is set up correctly

Monitor Tests: Display Calibration click here Monitor Response click here Screen Calibration click here (provided by Huggyg71)

Also have a good look at your printer's options. I found a big difference in colour quality by chaning photoenhance settings from automatic to people or nature.

Putting this in my postings - it's worth knowing and having! Thanks, Pesala for the info, and Rufus Tanner for asking.
