Printer takes ages

While printing a magazine my laser printer (QMS Colour) with 256mb memory takes ages to print a page if it contains a photo or 'more complex' image.

It flies through text and clip art but can take up to ten minutes of 'waiting' just for one full colour page.

Is there anyway I can speed up this process?

Someone tells me that there is a periferal that I can attach to the PC to do all the 'working out' of a picture in a super fast way and then it sends it to the printer for immediate printing.

What can they mean?

Any ideas will be greatly appreciated.

RAW or EMF?, What is the difference,

is one setting better than the other?
