Printer Sharing - XP and 98

I have a printer (Canon BJC-5000) which is able to print on A3 paper. Canon only provide a driver for windows 98. in spite of large petitions asking for one for XP. (They were still selling this printer right up to the time XP was released)
I want to retain this printer for its A£ capability.
I have bought an old computer on which I can run windows 98 and it can drive the printer. My main computer is running XP SP2 and has a HP PSC1610 printer.
There is no driver for this printer for windows 98!.
It appears that to share these printers both computers have to have driver for the printer on the other, which of course cannot be done.
The only way I have found of sharing printers is to copy the original file to the other computer, run the creating software there and print out from that.
Have I missed something?
