Printer resets itself as the default

I have two printers, a Canon inkjet and a Samsung laser. The Canon was the default printer until recently when I then set the Samsung as the default.
I find that occasionally something (not me) resets the Canon as the default printer. How can I stop this mutinous behaviour by the Canon ?

If you are printing from documents that you have filed on your hard drive the will have the printer 'on file' from the last time.

Thanks, wiz-king, and I appreciate that a document sticks with the printer which was originally used, but I don't understand how or why the actual default setting (the tick against the printer in the Control Panel) switches from one printer to the other all by itself. Spooky !
