Printer problem

My friend has a Epson 460 which is great for her as she doesn't do much printing, however it has started playing up, when it is switched on it makes a bad grinding noise, sometimes the computer won't recognise the printer, the utility doesn't work etc. She did have a virus a while ago which infected 28 files and I'm presuming the printer software was one of them. I have uninstalled it and re-installed, I've also downloaded a new driver from Epson and it is working better (so far anyway) but it still isn't right, and ideas anyone?

I guess nobody has any ideas on this one, maybe the printer just needs to be dumped although it hasn't been used that much

Try wiping an oiled tissue along the metal rod that runs across the printer, that the heads/cartridges ride along. You can't miss the one I mean.
