Printer not printing red

  dp600 14:08 20 Feb 06

I have a Epson Stylus Photo 830 and it is not printing red. There are new black and color ink in it and I have cleaned the heads a few times.

Sounds like it might be a faulty colour cartridge, dp600. Is it Epson genuine or comaptible?

I also meant to ask - Is it within its "shelf life" date?

  dp600 14:22 20 Feb 06

Thank you it is a genuine Epson and brand new well within shelf life.

Oh, that kind of scuppers my idea. I guess it's possible for a new Epson cartridge to be faulty, but I have never had one. Anyone else got any ideas...?

Red is produced from two ink colours - yellow and magenta. So, is it really red that is not being printed or magenta?

If there was a fault with two ink cartridges at the same time (very unusual) you would be having problems with other colours as well - most obvious being green which is formed from yellow and cyan.

If there isn't a problem with other colours, this leads me to think there is a problem elsewhere and not in the ink cartridges.

Thank You I think it must be Magenta as I am geting yellow.

It's a brand new cartridge and he has tried cleaning it several times. I suspect it (the cartridge) has an electrical/contact fault.
