Printer Initialisation

I am running Windows XP and I have a HP T45 Deskjet Printer which I am very happy with. My problem is every time I boot up I get a message saying the printer is initialising. It takes quit a long time to appear on my desktop and a long time to perform its tasks before I can start uding the PC. My question is can I stop it from doing this everytime and if so how do I do it. Thanks very much in anticipation

Assuming that you don't use the printer every day, unplug the printer and only plug it in when you want to print something.
