PRINTER failed USB support

i've tried 2 new printers & i get this message
"Cannot Install This Hardware
There was a problem installing this hardware
USB Printing Support
an error ocurred during the installation of the device
the system cannot find the file specified"
well, its got me stumped !
Windows XP

Usbprint.sys and Usbmon.dll
are the files required for USB print support.

I suspect they should both be in the windows\system32 folder.

Are you installing the Printers Drivers before you plug the printer in or after you have done so?

after i have done so

the two new printers are HP DeskjetHP Deskjet D2460 Colour Inkjet Printer (CB611A)

but I was under the impression that it was very important to install USB drivers before you plugged in the new piece of equipment.

I think that this may be your problem

That's not much help to you as I don't know the solution, just the possible cause.

Unplug uSB cable and reinstall driver, the HP software will tell you when to install usb cable.

NO i tried it both ways that would be too simple a solution

i used System Restore
