Was just looking for a graphics card on the overclockers website and saw this one click here the seventh one in the list counting the top one. It has 512 mb of built in ram for just £100. Is this normal or just a mistake?

I very much dougbt its a mistake, if your buying it your best to ring them to make sure though

No, it's probably correct. It's still a vanilla 6600 card. The extra memory would make little difference to performance (most 6600gt's make do with 128mb) If you're spending £100 you'd be better off with a 6600gt or a vanilla 6800.

I'd go one step further and say that it would make no difference to the performance in games (IE. over a 256MB card), it's also the slower DDR2 memory.. You are better off with a standard 6600gt

Thanks for that. I'll probably buy a 6600gt instead.

Actually, that's quite good for the price! Something to boast about down the pub, too, "Well, MY GPU has 512MB!"etc. etc. Memory clcoked at 960MHz, overclocked core....... Bet it's faster than a standard 6600GT (like it says in the ad.).

Cybermaxx

Good point. Though it depends if you are into "willy waving" as they say.

Mind you, he can always overclock his vanilla 6600GT as well.

True, but a 256MB 6600GT (I agree the 512MB is overkill, but 256MB IS useful) would cost more than this card.

Now you've made me unsure as to what to get! I want some thing preferably around £100 that plays games such as call of duty 2 fine but when the time comes i can put another one in and link them using sli to enhance it so that its possible to play games such as doom 3 and stuff. Phew, That was a long sentence.

Push the boat out and spend slightly more and get the 6600gt 256MB. Though in the end its only your good self that can make the decision.

Though I stand by what I said regarding 512MB graphics cards.
IE. there are few cards currently on the market that are fast enough and have adequate "poke" to take advantage of the extra memory (the 7800GTX and X1800XT probably being the only two that currently jump to mind). Plus games would need to be running in very high texture mode to take advantage of it anyway. It's just a sales gimmick (IE. bigger numbers sell things).

Good luck whatever you decide.
