I am familiar with prearing a New hard drive foDOS systems - Format F Disk and all that.
My existing system was prepared in such a way and XP loaded and 'converted itself' from Win98

What do you do for to put XP onto a new disk
As above or something else?

hi there

You need to first set the BIOS to boot from CD-ROM, to do that restart the computer and start tapping the delete key, you will then see boot sequence, change it to boot from CD-ROM, accept the changes and save and exit. Now ensure your XP disc is in the CD-ROM drive and the computer Will start from there.

XP set up will start to load and will ask you to format in NTFS.

p.s Do a full format and not a quick one

Don't know about other makes, but with Seagate it takes about 30 seconds with their downloaded setup software. Just boot with the floppies it creates and answer the questions. When asked for the file system choose accordingly. From Memory it actually asks what O/S you will be installing and sets the file system automatically.
