Preparations to make before selling laptop

I'm about to give my laptop to my parents (a Packard Bell Easy One Silver, running Win ME).

It's been stalling on startup about 1 time in 3 for last few months.I've checked Device Mgr and can find no hardware conflicts. I was thinking about using the recovery disk (floppy) that came with it, both to wipe the hard drive and give them a stable system.

My questions are:
1) Is this a good idea?

2) I assume this would lose all of the updates to IE, OE and Windows in general and if so can I download them all back from Windows Update site in one go?

3) I have Norton Antivirus, upgraded a few months ago to 2005 version from 2001 version. Will I lose all 3 years worth of virus definitions using the recovery disk?

Any advice gratefully received.

1 Yes

2 Yes

3 You will need to update to the latest definitions. As I understand it they are cumulative so you only need the latest.
