after visiting several web sites I noticed that my dial up number keeps changing to a premium rate number. I change my modem spec to the local rate number, then the next time I look it is back to a premium rate number. Any ideas ??

Go to Start, Control Panel, Add/Remove Programs and find any entries for internet connections that shouldn't be there. Uninstall them.

In case it's spyware, try out Spybot's Search and Destroy (found on many PC Advisor coverdiscs).

Spybot click here

I would ask your phone service provider to bloch premium rate numbers.

And block them as well :-)
