Premium-rate autodialing

On occasion whilst on various websites, I sometimes get a popup box appearing. At the same time my (external) modem tries to dial a premium- rate number. What exactly is happening and how can I stop it? At the moment, I just switch off the modem and reboot, then uninstall the program that's appeared. I have agnitum as a firewall, but I've yet to configure it to stop this (assuming I can). Any suggestions?

In IE > Tools > Internet Options... > Connections > In the white box remove the offender with the "Remove" button.

If that does not work click here and click here, download, install update and scan they will remove it.

Download, install and update, "Spywareblaster", "Spybot Search and Destroy" and "Adaware6" (all free). That should get rid of it and stop it appearing again. And be careful on iffy sites.
