pre post hang

Like a fool I said I'd try and help out with a friend's problem PC. It's running XP pro on a ECS k7s5a mobo with a xp1700 chip and 196 of RAM. Had it for a couple of years and then it started to hang on start up.

Push the power button on and then wait for anything up to 10 minutes before the POST screen comes up. Have slaved the hard drive on my machine and checked for viruses (clear).

So I thought I'll format and reinstall but still getting the same problem.

Has anyone had a similar problem? I'm tending to think its the motherboard but am hesitating buying a new one in case I get the same response.

Try making the drive a master on your machine, d disconnect you current drive, and try booting. If you still get the same problem it must be the drive

ignore my last posting. of course the drive will not boot as a master on another machine. sorry
