.pps files - displaying them or converting them

I have received several .pps files (containing graphic clips with audio) from friends in France but have been unable to get any results with my basic readers (including WMP, ACDSee, Kodak, Quicktime and Serif) though ACDSee does show the first clip only of each file with no audio.

Can anyone suggest a viewing or conversion program - preferably freeware - as there is a number of old family photographs which I want to recover? I did try to download a viewer from a French website but it led to a crash (perhaps because I can't remember my schooldays' French?) and I don't want to trouble the senders again as they have been very patient!

Many thanks in advance to anyone who can suggest a solution.

.pps files are from Powerpoint. If you have Microsoft Office, install Powerpoint to view them. Otherwise, I believe OpenOffice will view them or Microsoft have a viewer: click here

If that link doesn't take you there, put powerpoint viewer in your search engine.
