Power tripped out during partition resising

I recently bought another hdrive to free up some more space, as i convert my dvd's to avi files, for personal use - athough it may be pseudo-legal. Now i know this problem could have been adverted with backups, but in a way the avi's are my backups.

I was resising the partition with the films on it, from 200Gb to 300 and the power tripped out about 60% of the way through.

The effect of this is windows and linux see the drive as 200Gb, but the respective partitioning programs see it as 300 (Partition magic 8/Gparted).

Some of the films are still intact, some missing entirely, and others parts of other films.

Is there a cheapish/free way to recover my files, or am i going to have to bite the bullet, format the drive and begin the long process of re-ripping all my dvd's?
