Power Point Viewer as e-mail attachments

My new Dell Dimension computer does not have PowerPoint so I downloaded the PowerPoint Viewer from Microsoft. PowerPoint Slideshows and Presentations received as e-mail attachments open OK once saved to the hard drive but will not open direct from the e-mail attachment. I get the usual message of the file not having an association for performing the action and to create one. It makes no difference if I change the association from Microsoft Office PowerPoint to Microsoft Office PowerPoint Viewer, the file types change to PPS and PPT but they still won't open direct from the e-mail attachment. I have to save them first. They opened OK on my old PC. Any ideas?

Thanks for directing me to a site that offers a fix. This looks promising, I'll try it. At least I know it's a known problem and not my new PC playing up.
