power management fault

Monitor won't power down under management control. Settings in the BIOS and control panel have been adjusted to various values but the result is the same. What happens is that the monitor does power down, but only the first time after an adjustment has been made. Once the system has been off or reset the fault returns. Windows98SE has been recently installed but the problem existed before that. Windows screensaver comes in when asked and the hard drive also switches off OK. Hope someone out there can help.

Change all your settings to 'always on' and 'never', reboot. Then change, reboot.

Thanks for your response, MichelleC. The problem was in the startup tab of msconfig. I had inadvertently unticked "load power profile." Should've spotted this much sooner, although the fact that the hard drive wasn't affected is a bit confusing.
