Hi we recently had a power cut and since it happened my xp pc will not boot up when i power it up i get the safe mode screen.

When i press enter to start the pc with last known good configuration the windows logo starts up then the screen goes blank then i get the safe mode screen again.

I have tried system restore but that has not helped.

Any help please?

I would turn it off completely, then leave it over-night before trying it again in the morning.

Corrupt boot sector happened to me once try downloading Ubuntu and burn it to disc and run it from the live disc and if you can access the rest of your documents then you know it is only the boot sector.

If so download the diagnosis software from the hard drive maker burn it to disc and boot from that it should be able to repair any bad sectors
