Possible symptom of HD problem !

A number of times this week when booting up, Windows XP has said the HD needs checking for errors.

It then checks for errors and free space...no problems are reported.

I am puzzled as to why this keeps happening ?

This is normaly if windows as seen something it does not like understand at shut down, so it puts a message to check on startup

Today I defragged once, and printed out the report....it named 18 fragmented files.

I then identified these files, they were data files from previously uninstalled programs/utilities. I then deleted them.

Defragged a 2nd time, then re-booted...Windows XP then said HD needs checking for errors.. it did the check but did not do a free space check !

Since then the PC has booted OK without needing a HD error check (touch wood).

Unfortunately I have received no feedback on this topic apart from Woodchip (thanks Woodchip).

This problem, although not serious, is a nuisance....as a matter of interest would appreciate any interested members comments.
