Hi,
i hope someone can help. i was recently given a pc which had problems just turning on but that has been sorted thanks to this site. i now think the hard disk is u/s. when the pc bis turned on quite often it fails to detect the floppy drive but when it does it takes for ever to boot up, what make me think the hard disk is u/s is when i formatted and re-loaded xp it said unable to read certain segments(or someting similar) and the time it takes to boot, it also takes forever to open a single application , locks up and has come up with an error warng saying config error/system32. so is there a way to confirm the hard disk is u/s or is there the poss that it is just the floppy drive.

Floppy can be disabled in BIOS.

But if it has given segment errors then yes looks as if HDD is failing.

ok, thought it might be that, is there a test or something to confirm for sure?
