I've got a slight problem I'm hoping someone on here can help me out with.
I've got a portable hard disk (USB 2.0) It's a 80GB one, so its pretty big, and I've got a bit of stuff on there.
Anyway, when i plug it into the USB drive on my laptop nothing seems to happen. I go into my computer and its usually there as a removable drive (i think F: or maybe E:), but not any longer. It just doesnt appear any more!
Also there is no "remove usb drive" icon on the task bar, like when i put in a usb thumb drive or other usb device.
I've checked the usb port and its working with other things, just not the portable hard disk.
IS there any way i can ask my laptop to read the usb port, or something like that?
Any suggestions at what i could do?
Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks guys!
With the drive running uplug the USB cable at the drive end. How does the computer react to that? Try another cable.-the printer/scanner one for example If you have one try another slot. Is connected direct to PC or is it in a hub? Think about all those vairables befor the thinking the unthinkable, As as final test if you are able to unmount the drive from the casing is to open up the computer[with it off]unplug the CD data and power and connect those to the now bare drive. Ity does not have to be mounted- let it dangle or simply hold it. Then fire up the computer and see if the now 'new' drive is recognised . If it is is not then.......thinkthe unthinkable j
I managed to salvage my portable hard disk. I went to control panel then add new hardware, and did a search for hardware on my computer that wasnt installed. It showed up so a couple of clicks later everything was good again!
Thanks for all the advice!
