Porn site telephone number transfer?

I have a friend who has asked me to help him. NO NO its not me!!
Apparently after he logs on to his server (freeserve) in the normal manner his connection telephone number gets redirected to one of these premium rate numbers.

I have helped folks get rid of these sort of sites hogging their home page or pop ups, but never this??

I am stumped. Any ideas anyone?

click here Download Spybot Search And Destroy. This looks like a dialer.

Chances are his call is not being re-directed, that would lose his connection to Freeserve. What is more likely is that he has one or more dialers calling premium rate numbers. These will activate whilst the computer is on, but not logged on to the ISP. The first thing he will notice is a big phone bill.

Get him to download Spybot, instal, update, and run.

I've read of this problem in a mag recently, for the life of me I can't find it. However what I remember of the answer is to go to Network Connections and there along with your friends ISP connection will be the 09... connecttion.

Delete it.

Nasty, i hope he don't get a big bill i've heard of somebody who got a mega bill and then found out the computer was dialing a premiun number..

Spybot should do the trick...

I did slag Norton Anti virus 2004 edition, cos you now have to 'activate' the thing...

However i am a NAV user and i did get the 2004 update, and i did 'activate' the product and ran a full scan....

It found 9 dodgy adware/spyware programs including a Kazaa file....

I was using NAV 2003 and Spybot, all fully updated and i used Kazaabegone, yonks ago when i was unaware of the 'downside' of kazaa(found that out on this forum!!)

I guess the point of this is i rate NAV 2004 and would suggest you load that and be sure to rid the parasite on your mates computer...

Good luck...

Found it! would you believe a Q&A 'Computer Active'Jan 2002.

The answer then was, 'some websites install preemium rate dial up numbers onto a PC the idea being the next time you dial up you unwittingly use their number. Settings are stored in Network Connecttions and you should see two or more icons your ISP and the interlopers'.

Simply click on thesee and Delete.
