Poor 3D performance

I have a P4 2.66 (Asus P4S8X-X mobo) with Asus GeForce 5200 graphics and 512Mb RAM. Having recently purchased the game 'Halo', I am finding that my machine can only run it acceptably at 640x480 with all other graphics settings set low. Since my machine is way above minimum spec, this seems a bit worrying. I have also used 3DMark03 to benchmark my machine, getting a score of 977 - much lower than many similarly specced machines listed in the 3DMark database.

I have downloaded all of the latest drivers for my hardware but to little effect.

Anyone got any other ideas?
