Playing MPEG movies in your web page?

I am thinking of playing an MPEG movie in my web page, but am not sure how to go about it.

a couple of questions...

1) Can I play MPEG2 movies (higher quality) or is just MPEG1 advisable (or quicktime even)?

2) How do I make it so people on different platforms with different browsers can view it without much problem? ie: maximum compatibility, without depending on what plugins different people have?

Second one is crucial to me. I'd like maximum compatibility.

You could use a WMP plugin - that's what I do. Then people can view it in the browser without the need for things like Quicktime, which a lot of visitors will not have.

If you're wondering how to implement that, I can't offer much advice as I do it in NOF. If you don't have NOF, then it might be a bit more complex.
