I am having a problem with a mates puter, its plays all windows toons etc ( Thru IDE ) but when i put a CD ( Original ) into drive, the player commences, and counts down, but there is no audio output, she has Win98 SE with update, onboard sound has been disabbled as she has a new Creative soundcard installed, and new drivers, any ideas..........anyone???

has the sound cable from the sound card been plugged into the back of the cd drive?

i may be wrong but if the onboard sound has been disabled and your using the soundcard, then you will get windows sounds played through the ide cable but the cd drive will have to be hooked up to the soundcard via leads.

Look in Device Manager. Click on the CDROM in question and then click on Properties. Ensure that Enable Digital CD Audio is checked.

It doesn't matter about separate audio cables then.

I've never known that. Very odd, especially as there is a new sound card installed.

One question: Are the drivers the ones provided by Windows or by the Creative disk/website?

Installation disc came with soundcard, so pulled drivers off that.
