Playback sound problems

When I play a music track or CD through Real Player, Windows Media player or Winamp the sound is distorted. Loud sounds, base beats etc. force the volume down and so you get this 'in and out' effect as the level fluctuates between strong/loud sounds and weak/quiet sounds. Most annoying when listening to something with a strong back beat, base line or a voice over. Funnily enough it doesn't seem to be a problem when I listen to direct streamed sound such as BBC player.
Anyone else experienced this and got a solution??

Not an answer but I do not use Real Player, WMP or Winamp.

I use JetAudio and don't have any problems.

Give it a try, its free.

The fact that you can listen to streamed music ,to me,indicates a sound codec update is needed.
You can download wmp updates from microsoft through automatic updates. If you prefer to download them by searching with google you need to know your wmp version and obviously your operating system which you fail to mention.
