I have a table (Word 2007)with names in each cell,is it possible to also place a number in each cell without doing it long handed.

but if you have Excel as well you could do it in Excel, and then copy past the Excel data into the Word table...

Is that an option?

In Word, select the table then click the Numbering button on the Home tab.

In word, table, if you just select the column and not the whole table it just puts the numbers in with the names in that column only.
