Pins missing on monitor cable?

I have just bought a second hand Sony Multiscan G500 21" monitor whic seems to work OK at fist impressions, as I am still working my way throught the menu options, but I notice when connnecting the cable to my graphics card there are about 4 'holes' where I assume pins should be. My previous monitor has only one gap where a pin could go but it is designed that way but to be 'missing'4 seems rather a lot.
As I said, initial tests seem OK but I am yet to see it's full potential. Are there any tests I can do to check all is well?
Have I bought a dud?

I think that this is normal. Start, Run, type

dxdiag

and click OK.

Thanx for all that. It put my mind at rest.
