pinnacle and mpeg files

I was volunteered to transfer old video tapes onto dvd using pinnacle.
Fisrt question;
I was given MPEG files saved on DVD that Pinnacle will not open for me to capture.
'Studio does not support this progressive scan(non interlaced) MPEG2 video file format'
Second question; when i try to copy one of the files from a
DVD it copies right to the end then comes up with
'cannot copy Data error (Cyclic redundancy check)

Any help will be appreciated
