One of the guys in the office here is, like everyone, part of our network. However I cannot ping his hostname. I can ping everyones but his. He himself needs to be able to do this but also cannot. Anyone know why he would not be appearing on the network?

What about a personal firewall? has he installed one an forgot to mention it.

no theres def no peronsal firewall. no need for one as the network has its own. We're on a Linux network if that makes any difference?

Shouldn't, you can ping a linux web server the same as you can a windows web server. Try going to click here on his machine and then pinging that. Can you see him in the linux version of network neighbourhood/ my network places?

unfortunatley I cannot use his machine as he is away on holidays for a week! What is the K=Linux equivalent of net neighbourhood?

Dunno, i dont have much experience with linux.
