ping -f -l 1472

My ISP..Eclipse..have just emailed me to say that to aquire my max MTU : ping -f -l 1472 click here then follow instructions from their email. How/what do I go about this please. I have tried putting it into web address but nothing happened.

Thanks VoG for that.I did as suggested and have been told that 'packet needs frag but DF set'.
Any suggestions please ?

Reduce the number until you get a successful ping. Drop by say, 32 at a time

When you get a successful ping, keep trying and raise the number until it fails. That is your `ideal` MTU (the one just before it fails).

Try TCPOptimizer from click here The tab 'largest MTU' will tell you your optimum setting.

Many thanks VoG/brundle. I have taken beeuuem post on board and used TCP which gave me a MTU of 1458 instead of the preset 1500
