Hi All.
My Photosmart 8450 wont print wit Vista!.

It installs fine, just like it says it will on the HP website, but when I try and print something, it sits there in the printer box and then goes from "printing" to "error". Have uninstalled and installed, tried new cables, have tried Hp diagnostics(but that cant connect to printer either) so at my witts end.

Please help!

Regards

Why not try HP Support Forums htt://h30434.www3.hp.com They may have more info.

No luck there. Wondering if I should put it through my router.

Yes, why not do that

Or try downloading generic w7 driver and try that

Have you got it set as "default" printer? Have you checked "Device Manager" to see if any "Yellow Exclamation" marks against printer? Try right clicking and selecting "Update Driver Software"

I am assuming you haven't already been down this route.

At the risk of repeating myself, to uninstall HP software (I am on my fourth HP printer, so know whereof I speak!) you need a deeper uninstall procedure.

The standard uninstall leaves so much stuff behind that any subsequent reinstall fails, though you may not be aware of this.

Load your HP software disc, but don't let it run.

Using Explorer navigate to \util\ccc\uninstall_L3.bat and run it.

Manually delete any HP software that is left, search your C drive very carefully.

Before you do anything else, make sure your printer is connected to your network.

Do not load the software until you have confirmed, by printing, that the printer is connected (the printer will print without the software being installed).

Once you have done that try reinstalling again.

If you haven't already got it the full up to date download is available here.

The driver you need should be on the VIsta Operating Disk. These are the instructions.
