Photos taken on camera

If someone takes some photos on a digital camera and then sends them to me how can I find out when they were taken?

should be with the file; right click on the image and select 'properties'.

Ask them? I dont know if right clicking/properties gives you any info.

Right click on the image file and choose properties. The date is when the file was created which, 90% of the time, is when it was taken.

It's just I don't realy want to ask them so I will try the properties thing ans see if that works.

If the image is straight out of the camera it will show the date & time it was taken. This assumes that the correct date/time had been set in the camera.

If it has been modified, then the date will be that on which the modification was made.

Only if the image is sent 'as is' downloaded from camera.
If the image has gone through an editing process them the date of last edit is shown

If you have Photoshop Elements File>file Info will give you the EXIF data for the picture including the date it was taken. Similarly in Irfanview with the EXIF plug in.

If you do not have Photoshop, Irfanview is a free program which allows you to read the EXIF data.
