Philips SPD5 External Hard Drive problem

  Fatgav 19:20 11 Dec 07

My recently aquired Philips SPD5 External Hard Drive works OK when plugged in to my booted up laptop. However, if I leave it connected, my laptop will not boot up on a re-start, the boot up hangs at about 90% complete. I have to disconnect the hard drive, switch off and then re-boot before plugging the hard drive back in again. Can anyone suggest a cause and, better still, a cure?

It sounds as if your laptop is trying to boot from the external drive and will look no further for the active drive. You may have to wade through your laptop manual to see if there is a BIOS change for boot order you can make.
