Philips CDD4801 CDRW BIOS Detection Problem

Hi all, I have problem with my CDD4801 CDRW being detected by the BIOS. It is on the Secondary slave IDE cable along with a Pioneer DVD player, everything was fine up until a few days ago when I noticed that neither of the CD drives were showing in "My Computer".

I rebooted and entered the BIOS to find the neither of the drives were recognised there.

I traced the problem back to the CDRW whereby the Burn LED on the fromt was lit as soon as the PC was turned on, apparently this also means self test error. I then unplugged the ribbon from the burner and I got back my DVD drive.

Can anyone help me please get my burner back before I take a trip to the local PC shop...????

for info the PC has the following:

LEX BN730E Ultra Mobo
AMD 1Ghz CPU
512 Mb Ram
Win XP Pro

although it was working for ages with this configuration.
