Has anyone ever heard of Peter Gutmann's paper on Secure Deletion of Data from Magnetic and Solid-State Memory. It is extremely interseting.

Very interesting, but it can't beat hitting the HDD with a big Hammer when it's removed and finished with! New ones are cheap, especially if security is a problem.

That is very true however disposal of in fire or a furnace would also have the desired effect.
