Can anyone tell me what this file is? Also, can you please advise how I can get rid of it as everytime I try to delete it, it doesn't allow me.

Thanks for the link. It's advise is to put this line in a logon script. del /q %SystemRoot%\System32\Perflib_Perfdata*.dat. Can you please tell me hoe to do that? I am a bit novice!!

I would have thought that this would work if you start up in "Safe Mode with Command Prompt. To do this, restart and keep tapping the F8 key just before the Windows screen loads. You should then see a menu - use the Up/Down arrows to select Safe Mode with Command Prompt.

You should end up at a > prompt on a black screen.

Type the command at that prompt.
