PCI Ethernet Controller driver

  Railside 21:10 14 Mar 04

In attempting to network my Gateway 650 (Windows 98SE) I get a message to install the PCI Ethernet Controller. When I do so, it continually tells me it cannot find the driver eventhough I had it search the network hub disk and the Windows 98SE disk. What is it looking for (a file name)and why can't it find it on the Win98 disk? Is something blocking the installation for some reason? What do I try next?

Try navigating to 'display a list of known drivers...' or online via M$.

If it's showing in Device manager reinstall driver by right-clicking/Properties/, then either navigate 'Search for a suitable driver...' or 'Display a list of known drivers...' or point it to your cd-rom if it's on the disc.
