im currently running 2 x 256mb pc3200 cl25 400MHz sticks one is made by matrix and one by m&s i think? they work fine together producing 512mb. i have just purchased 1 x 1gb pc3200 400MHz hi density ram by wonderam i installed it and when installed with matrix ram only produces 768mb only reconising the new one as 512mb not 1gb! also the computer wont fire up with just the new 1gb stick in and wont work with the M&s one. As it work ok with the matrix one but just shows half the amount is it possible to release the other 512mb? if not is it safe to keep running it?

I suggest you go to Crucial and run the scan my system program. I would suggest the most likely explanation is your motherboard only excepts and therefore correctly identifies 512mb per slot.

Alternatively look at your motherboard manufacturers website and see what they say about the memory your board can support.

probably due to the high density module

Crucial recognizes 512mb of the new 1 GB stick and 256mb of the 256mb stick, but says my computer can have up to 2 GB per slot total 4 GB!
